THE EXTRAORDINARY WRIT

Let us know what you would be interested in seeing as part of TCYLA's upcoming mentorship program in collaboration with the Tarrant County Bar Association. Whether its breakfast with "experienced" lawyers in your practice area, happy hours with solo practitioners, or just more cowbell...we want to know!
We want to hear from you!

Do something good for your mental health, take a walk, earn some CLEs, and celebrate Reata’s last days at its old location by joining us on June 11th for the kickoff of the TCYLA’s Mental Health Series and hear from lawyer and professional counselor Kate Casey on imposter syndrome!

As a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor, Kate Casey is in private practice in Southlake serving in-person to those in the DFW Metroplex as well as serving clients virtually statewide. Her areas of expertise are grief and loss, helping attorneys and other professionals struggling with anxiety, depression, and burnout, and premarital counseling. She earned a Master’s degree in Counseling from Virginia Tech University. Casey also holds a Doctorate of Jurisprudence and practiced Environmental Law before making a most satisfying career transition to Counseling. She has spent a third of her life living outside of the United States. Her experiences living abroad and learning from other cultures has shaped her worldview and, in turn, her counseling style.  In Kate’s free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three adult daughters, exploring nature, cooking, and reading.

Volunteer Opportunity
Teen Court
Tuesdays | 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Fort Worth Municipal Court

1000 Throckmorton St., Fort Worth, TX 76102

Teen Court is a voluntary program that allows teens to perform community service and jury duty in lieu of paying fines for citations received from the City of Fort Worth. Successful completion of Teen Court results in dismissal of the citation and a clean record. Participants plead their case before a teen jury, the members of which then determine the appropriate community service hours to be performed within a three-month period.
TCYLA is encouraging its members to sign up to volunteer. Teen Court is in need of volunteers with
experience or training in the judicial/legal field to assist with training teen attorneys and to preside as judges for Teen Court hearings.

Apply to volunteer here. For questions, please reach out to John Easter.

THE WOMEN'S CENTER LEGAL CLINIC

The Women’s Center hosts a free legal clinic for people in the community who need advice concerning issues around family, estate or tenant law. Volunteer attorneys are able to help those most in need by providing answers to legal questions, orienting clients in their legal rights, and directing clients to valuable legal resources, many of which are free. They help steer people in the right direction so they can continue to make strides toward

The clinic is not only beneficial to clients, but a gratifying experience for the attorneys. “The Legal Clinic is incredibly rewarding. I get the opportunity to sit down with folks who have problems and uncertainty, and I get the privilege of watching them leave with hope and peace of mind. It is well worth my time,” said volunteer attorney Ross F. Tew.

The legal clinic is held on the 2nd Thursday of the month in the Fort Worth office, on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Arlington office, and virtually on the 4th Thursday of the month. For more information or to register to attend, please call 817.927.4000.
